one thing you tards fail to realize in this is a 'pet' is a more or less protected class at least in the USA and livestock / wild animals <> same.

It's akin to a soldier killing another soldier vs murdering someone locally.

It's an e-peen argument for the most part. Even livestock has to be humanely treated...if someone beat down a cow it'd have the same level of concern.

I'm not bringing law into this, just the irrationality / hypocrisy of people who think this woman should be burned at the stake.

well I believe those that would do something like this would also be ones to screw over anyone. IMHO she really needs to be monitored, it's doubtful this was her first go at something.

I'd be willing to give her the benefit of the doubt if the cat had attacked her, or destroyed something of hers...but it's was freaking minding it's own business.

Please. No cat initiates an attack on a human being without first being cornered or pursued by that human being.

Not always true. Upon meeting my cat for the first time, she'll beg you to rub her belly. Of course it is just a trap to see what you are made of while she shreds the skin from your forearm. It is customary for me to warn my guests of their impending doom if they so much as look at my kitty's temptingly fluffy belly, but they rarely take heed. After the attack is over, if you cry out she'll stalk you for the duration of your stay at casa del Corn. React agressively and she'll shower you with love and affection. Thankfully, children are not subject to this test--probably maternal instinct, dunno.

I was thinking the same thing. She might be mentally ill.

Creepy lady.

But also scary are all the bloodthirsty animal-humpers here, and in the UK too since it seems she needs police protection.

Tom, FERAL cats outdoors DO NOT come up to strange humans and beg them to rub their belly. They don't come anywhere close to humans on their own. Even if you try and tempt them with food they will almost always not come close enough for any contact. The situation you describe with you HOUSE CAT would NOT be replicated under the conditions the poster I replied to described.

404 Equivalent situation not found.

I can't believe people are trying to pass the idea she was looking out for the cat's safety due to traffic.

Death threats, lil over board. But if that were my neighborhood or my cat, she'd be extremely uncomfortable til she moved. It's just so bad to live in a neighborhood where you aren't looking out for your neighbors or get along with all of them really well.

How do you know? Perhaps there was a history between them. The cat may have had a long-running feud with this woman, prank phone calls at all hours of the night, throwing rocks at her windows, shouting abuse at her in the street. It _looked_ sweet and harmless but we've only seen one side of the story. It might have been an ASBO cat.

Miss Bale said today: 'I want to take this opportunity to apologise profusely for the upset and distress that my actions have caused. I cannot explain why I did this, it is completely out of character and I certainly did not intend to cause any distress to Lola or her owners.
'It was a split second of misjudgment that has got completely out of control. I am due to meet with the RSPCA and police to discuss this matter and will cooperate fully with their investigations.'
But she claimed the outcry had been blown out of all proportion: 'I don't know what the fuss is about. It's just a cat.'
Miss Bale said she was just walking home on Saturday when she saw the cat and decided to play with it. But she told the Sun that she 'suddenly thought it would be funny' to put it in the bin.
'I did it as a joke because I thought it would be funny. I never thought it would be trapped, I expected it to wriggle out,' she said.

The woman should be charged with animal abuse (or whatever) and the owner of the cat should be cited under leash laws for allowing his cat to roam freely outside.

Yep.

She only said all of that after the face because she got caught.

You could see in the video that she looked around to see if anyone was watching her put the cat in the bin. If she hadn't been caught she ccl if the cat had died or not.

Funny thing is, I'd quite like a cat, but as I live in a tower block it wouldn't be able to roam freely outside, and for that reason I wouldn't get one, as it seems cruel and unnatural to have a cat but not let it freely come-and-go as it pleases. I'm always a bit shocked when I hear of 'house cats' that aren't allowed out. That seems a bit cruel to me.

Though there is a valid argument for a limit on the number of people keeping cats as pets in any given area due to the damage they can do to the bird population.

Also, as far as this story goes, I agree with Perknose - yes what the woman did was wrong and the RSPCA should prosecute her, but its just one small crime amongst millions that occur all over the world every day. It's totally ridiculous the way random cases lead to global internet hate-mobs just because they make the media - how many atrocities against human beings have gone un-noticed across the world since this story broke? This woman did something wrong, but she's hardly Osama Bin Laden.
