how many blacks did the rebels gas? remind me again i seem to have missed that in history class.
The estimated death toll explicitly due to the transportation and conditions of slavery in the Atlantic slave trade by whites is considered to be approximately 4 million people. Another 6 million are believed to have been killed in tribal battles over slavery, but that's not so directly attributable to whites. This definitely includes the Caribbean slave trade also, which was far more lethal than its North American counterpart. Considering how much smaller the population of the world was at that point however, we're talking about a pretty huge percentage of people from a geographic area.
If you want to point to just the part of that caused by southern whites of states that became the Confederacy, we're probably talking several hundred thousand deaths directly attributable without taking into account excess mortality from poor medical care, etc. Then of course we have the systematic torture and rape, which should probably fit in there somewhere as well.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that the Confederacy was certainly not as bad as the Nazis, but they were still really, REALLY fucking evil. The fact that even a single American looks back fondly on such a horrible organization is pretty sad.
