Josh - just because you say it's so - doesn't make it so - you are pulling a bunch of BS out of your ass

pitbulls were bred to be gentle, loving dogs? WTF are you smoking?

"The breed eventually to be known as the American Pit Bull Terrier was
selectively bred specifically with the idea of it becoming the ultimate
canine gladiator"

What reputable website did you pull that out of? Lol the "ultimate canine gladiator". It wasn't meant for that. Yes, terriers do display a higher aggression towards OTHER DOGS but if you properly socialize the animal that type of behavior can also be discouraged. However, human aggression within this breed is an undesirable trait that is brought on by bad breeding/bad ownership.

From the United Kennel Club (a reputable organization) -

"Sometime during the nineteenth century, dog fanciers in England, Ireland and Scotland began to experiment with crosses between Bulldogs and Terriers, looking for a dog that combined the gameness of the terrier with the strength and athleticism of the Bulldog. The result was a dog that embodied all of the virtues attributed to great warriors: strength, indomitable courage, and gentleness with loved ones."

"This breed is eager to please and brimming over with enthusiasm. APBTs make excellent family companions and have always been noted for their love of children. Because most APBTs exhibit some level of dog aggression and because of its powerful physique, the APBT requires an owner who will carefully socialize and obedience train the dog."

And more importantly when you see those HUGE "pitbulls" with big ass heads and cropped ears that weigh 70-120 lbs - that's an incorrectly bred American Pit bull Terrier. It's VERY uncharacteristic of the breed. It's undesirable and it's idiots who breed the dog with larger dogs like cane corsos or mastiffs and try to create a super large dog that is purely meant for stupid reasons.

"Desirable weight for a mature male in good condition is between 35 and 60 pounds. "

Well I suppose "the ultimate canine gladiator" has quite a lot of hyperbole in it but they were bred from the beginning to be fighting dogs, be it bears or other dogs.

Problem is when pits do go ape shit, they have a ridiculously high pain tolerance, are afraid of nothing and are very powerful animals. Those things combined are horrible if your trying to get one to stop chewing your arm off.

You can claim labs or pekingese (WTF) can be equally aggressive but its a damn sight easier to get one of them to stop attacking you.

funny how they left out the part about the APBT originally being bred for fighting bulls and bears for shit and giggles, and then when that was outlawed they were used for dogfighting.

also people keep talking about what's undesirable in the breed, genetic diseases are considered pretty undesirable in any breed but that doesn't mean that some breeds aren't more at risk than others....
