don't know ifyou guys heard about this.

she was apparently swimming w/ sea lions...i guess it was bound to happen sooner or laters.

Franzman was wearing a full wetsuit and swim fins when she was attacked, Lea said. The state marine biologist said the shark may have mistaken Franzman, silhouetted against the surface, for a seal. The sharks are ambush predators and attack their prey from below.
That's just not a good idea, even if this is extremely rare.

I feel guilty, I scanned the entire article looking for something I could make a joke about.

/me goes into corner and hangs head

It is tragic!

Imagine.....Beautiful day. Full of sunshine. California. You go into the water to refresh. Life is good! Then BANG! A f*cking Great White bites into your side. You lay there in shock. Gasping for air...drowning. The you feel your side has been ripped out from you! You die a painful, slow death from loss of blood, pain, shock, and lung water!

It is very sad indeed. 🙁

I truly hope the woman didn't suffer too much. 🙁

I know this sounds callous, but I'll say it anyway: Didn't she watch "SHARK WEEK" on TV?!

I thought the same thing. You gotta respect the sea and not think it's just a playground. Even that shark expert got a big chunk of his leg bitten off (anatomy of a shark bite) when he started treating sharks like they were goldfish swimming all around him.

Shame for her, though.

I wish I had time to get eaten by a shark. The only sharks I get to see are IBM SAN solutions.

They interviewed the responding sheriff and lifeguard on the Today show. What did they say? Not much.

Statistically speaking, 1 shark-bite death in 10yrs isn't much (a tradgedy nontheless). I would imagine more people in the US are killed by 'gators and poisonous snakes?

lol! I always love the marine biologists and 'shark experts' who insist that sharks don't target humans, they only 'mistake' them for 'their natural prey' (which include humans).

I wonder what 'prey animal' sharks confused for the couple hundred sailors of the USS Indianapolis eaten by sharks as they bobbed in the ocean for days?

I agree. That was one of their big tips on avoidin attacks. Dont swim near seals or sea lions...

what a fvckin retard! of course she could get attacked by a shark when swinmming with sea lions, especially when sharks eats sea lions.

This is the big story on the local news.

Thing is, no one's gotten killed by a shark around here (let alone a great white) since like '52.

The water's pretty cold here, usually not much shark activity.
