A woman who admitted sending disturbing Twitter messages to the mother of murdered toddler, James Bulger, has been jailed for three years.
Chloe Cowan, 20, from Margate in Kent, pleaded guilty to stalking involving serious alarm or distress at an earlier hearing at Canterbury Crown Court.
She had posed as one of the toddler's killers and as his ghost in the tweets.
Cowan was given a restraining order, prohibiting her from making any contact with James' parents or their family.
In addition, she was banned for 10 years from using any device with internet capability without it being able to store the history of its use.
Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS South East, Jaswant Narwal, said Cowan had "targeted and tormented" the two-year-old's mother with "cruel tweets".
James was murdered in 1993 by schoolboys Jon Venables and Robert Thompson after they abducted him from a shopping centre in Bootle, on Merseyside.

The kid getting killed was a notorious case in the UK. What an odd choice for a woman of this age to pick, given that she was born three years after the murder.

Some people like to torment others. I'm not sure it's mental illness. I somehow doubt they would have sent her to jail for three years (and not a mental institution) if they suspected as much.

If they torment others and generate pleasure from that they are mentally ill.

Good. Lock that mentally ill person up before they physically harm someone. Plus a few years for just doing douchebaggery things.

What kind of terrible human being would do something like that?

The same reason a lot of people post the trash they do here. Negative attention for people who hate themselves is better than no attention at all. Better to be an asshole than a nobody at all.

Think about it. The desire to torment others arises out of a desire for revenge for having been tormented oneself. We torment others to to control them, to make them behave normally. This is why we are all sick. Naturally, to maintain the status quo we further torment those who show symptoms of tormenting others because it's the one time we permit ourselves to torment them. In this way we maintain our mental illness and the cycle of violence it creates. To be properly mentally ill you can only torment people to the extent they are terrified to torment others. This allows the normally sick to have the abnormally sick as targets of torment. The more we torment the more tormenters there will be for us to torment. It's so incredibly simple its nearly impossible to see. You have to be able to bear up under terrible shame for being who we are.

This is pretty much calling the nature of man a mental illness. Barbarism is our natural condition, but we've decided to try living cooperatively in civilized societies working side by side to the benefit of all. To make civilization work we have to let go our natural instinct to think of ourselves first, which some people find harder to do than others.

So, unless you have a way to change the fundamental nature of man, or we magically become far better beings that we currently are, then we have to impose appropriate penalties on folks who refuse to play nice in our ostensibly civilized society.

I would respectfully suggest you've been thinking about it too long and ignoring the facts of the world we live in.

You have placed yourself in a mental prison. You assume you know what the nature of man is. From this unexamined unconscious assumption all of the rest of the bull shit you spouted inevitably roles out like the message you hear on an answering machine. You are not home.

All you have ever seen are camel bones. You have no idea what a real camel looks like.

In your case this means that after long exposure to people who know nothing but think they do, when you run into somebody like me who does know he knows nothing, the experiences creates a state of mental paralysis and shock and temporary stupefaction.
