My hospital is quite large, and if someone is injured or needs assistance in a building that is not in the main hospital, or across a public street, we are required to call EMS rather than attempt to deal with it internally. It's sort of odd, but necessary for the patient's safety.

Of course, any responsible person is obligated to provide first aid etc... From the housekeeping staff to CEO.

Yeah, ER personnel quite possibly don't have any protections as first responders. As she was not ambulatory her presence does not imply consent, as it would if she had checked herself in.

probably the case

the hospital i work at has an emergency response team for issues that occur anywhere inside the hospital campus. i think they can get anywhere in something like 5 minutes or less, not sure if they cover the grounds, too, or just inside the main building (which is rather large and spread out).

a lot of nurses probably *cant* just up and pick someone up on their own, and are already working their own shift taking care of patients.

kinda makes me wonder how many hospitals have internal emergency response teams, though.

I'd guess only the largest, meaning not many.

I used to get calls to urgent care clinics all the time, but that's just because they couldn't provide the level of care the patient needed. (Chest pain, complicated fractures, etc.)

The fact that this hospital had an ER threw me for a loop, I thought it was going to be a convalescent hospital. I have no idea what they were thinking, obviously nothing. :colbert:

Different story if you care:

I got a call to a convalescent hospital for a patient in cardiac arrest once. We walked in with all our gear and the "nurse" pointed to a room, we went in the room to find the guy all alone...dead. They weren't doing anything for him, nada. He also arrested right in front of her (the "nurse") so she called 911, I guess she just decided that was enough and it wasn't her responsibility to call a code. Fucking pisses me off when that crap happens.
