I believe his actions show that he cannot funtion in society

As do mom's both should be locked away for good.

I don't. He's a pos and deserves punishment, but this wasn't a violent crime at its core. He's probably just a jerk with an IQ deficit and a serious case of bad judgement. It'd be cheaper for me as a tax payer for him to scrub toilets at McDonalds instead of rotting in a jail cell.

Have him work at McDonalds so he can bang other teenagers? Good idea. :disgust:

Stupid or not he should have known better. He needs jail time.
Life in prison? Lets just execute him then. If you feel that strongly he's such a danger, we might as well just be done with it, right?

I didn't mean to say he shouldn't have jail time...just that even 'up to' life imprisonment for this crime seems pretty overkill IMO.
That is at the judges discretion. Grownups having sex with underage minors is a serious crime. And in this particular case it touches the slavery border. Any two adults who would enter into a sex contract that involved a minor child deserve what they get.

I don't think a life sentence is in order here but they both deserve some serious time.

How did the Government find out what was going on behind closed doors???

From the article, it sounds like the girl was talking about it and 'an adult' overheard her.

What's not clear in this case is whether the daughter was ok with this, or if she was pressured into it. If the daughter was over the legal age of consent and willingly agreed to this, then I'd have no problem with it. (I wouldn't exactly approve, but nor would I disapprove, as I would consider this their own business.)

Doesn't sound like she went to the police/Government.

They usually leave that bit out, mainly because she's not of the age to consent, legally.

Would the punishment be different based on whether or not it was consesual or forced sex?

Probably not, but personally.... I think it should be. Of course, sex with a 15 year old girl, especially your girlfriend's daughter, deserves punishment, just much less if its consensual.

OK... First, she was 15. Under the age of consent.

Second, if she couldn't see how wrong this whole situation was, and participated willingly in it, then that is one more reason why 15 year olds can not legally consent.

sometimes i think we need a service like this... keep spouses happy while they go off to long business trips or war.

although.. not with 15 yr olds.

That's exactly why I qualified my statement with the "if the daughter was over the legal age of consent". If she WAS over the age of consent, then the "wrongness" of the situation is purely a matter of opinion.

Fitzgibbon is scheduled to be back in court for a preliminary exam Aug. 17. The mother's preliminary exam is scheduled for Aug. 22.

Well fill us in... what happened?

I do not know which is worse... the mother making the daughter do this... or the boyfriend taking her up on the offer.

Fitzgibbon was arraigned last week on six counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, which is punishable by up to life in prison.

He deserves to be punished too but that seems a little harsh...

Oops. Missed that.

Why is it harsh? He could have said no.

Life in prison should be reserved for murders and people who cannot function in society at all.

exactly, the guy must be like, "Free sex? why not." It's like calling the doctor who administer euthanasia a murder.

(i kid, of course)

Says you. I don't buy the popular view that morality is purely subjective.

What person does know right from wrong at 15? If someone tried to make me sign that contract I would have laughed at them.

That morality is not subjective.
