Woman ejected from vehicles TWICE, dies

Passenger in a car crash is ejected and injured. An off-duty EMT puts her in his car to drive her to get medical treatment. He crashes and she is ejected from his car and dies. "This is by far one of the strangest, oddest accidents I've had," said Chad Patton, resident California Highway Patrol officer for the Borrego Springs area."

"The 18-year-old emergency medical technician said he was driving 75 mph when he lost control of the car. He told authorities he had turned to check on Patino's condition before the car left the road."

Hopefully, the off-duty EMT doesn't get sued. 🙁

Can you say...lawsuit?

He was going 75mph, himself? On rain-slickened roads? And turned his head away from the road?

he was trying to help
I doubt they'll sue him.
How can you sue someone that has tried to help ?

but hey you never know.

That's 'help'? I'd have rather crawled with broken ribs than have someone drive like that with me in the back. Yeah, he was driving not as fast as the woman but still potentially recklessly given the conditions.

I would think that after being ejected from one car crash, she would have learned to put on her seat belt. I guess not.

You would think that after you are ejected from a car going 100mph you could still move... yeah right, she probably was unconcious and not moving at all. Of course the driver should have put the seat belt on, but I guess he didn't.

Hmm, it actually happens quite a bit, say for instance there's a wreck in front of you and you pull off to assist the injured.
If you move a person whatsoever(that has been injured, unless you think they are in grave danger of the car exploding or something, crushing them, etc) you are putting yourself in liability to be sued.
Yes, it does happen quite often, you can be sue'd for your own personal negligence.

😉

Not saying they should by any means, it's kinda scary how sometimes you think you might be helping someone and you can get burned, bad.

it's so dumb!!! why people sue....like some guy saved a guys life using CPR....but broke the guys sternum in the process......instead of sending a thank you card or something, he sends legal papers for the medical bills.......kinda makes you think twice before saving someone or being nice......(no link, but this was the warning we got in my CPR Class)
