I wouldn't blame so much the woman who was driving it.

The article brings another topic: the woman had a learner permit. Who, in his right mind, would let a learner drive a brand new mammoth SUV? For crying out loud - shell out some money and send her to the driving school, where instructor has a double set of pedals. WTF?

Well, the cheapskates pay twice: buy a new SUV, pay for the pool evac and fixing up the lot, rising insurance costs - and finally a driving school.

I learned how to drive in my parents' cars (one of which was an SUV), neither of which had an extra set of pedals. I never drove the car into a fscking pool. You have to be pretty slick to accomplish something like that.

You know what - sh!t happens. One of my friends (mind you - learning on parents' car) nearly drove it into the light pole, because when he was passing a fire station, the door swung open, and a fire truck drove out with full lights and a siren. Who knows what happened there - maybe someone honked while passing her on the shoulder.

Had it been an extra set of pedals and a qualified instructor - nothing would have happened. Driver schools exist for a reason.

What pray tell, surreal universe do you visit us from where a Toyota Highlander is aptly described as mammoth?

Right. Should have been a Navigator. Then it would make it all right. Please.

I'm going to have to guess that Mimi isn't much younger than her husband (56). Why is she just learning to drive?

Maybe her husband thought it was about time to let her out of the kitchen. And see what happens?

in the second sentence, he was talking about his friend, in the third, he's talking about the woman in the pool.

I bet the kids would love to play around in that thing. I say they take out the battery and everything that may leak, and leave it in there 😛

True, but calling them "cheapskates" and making broad sweeping statements that begin with "who in their right mind," etc, is a little harsh in that particular regard-lots of us never went to a "driving school." Conversely, saying you wouldn't blame the woman is pretty ridiculous-who on earth do you blame if not her? It was her fault! lol She's got to be in her late 40s, early 50s, a little common sense could have probably gone a long way. But, I guess I wasn't there.
