OTTAWA (AFP) - A Canadian woman had to be rescued from the roof of her submerged car after driving into an isolated marsh as she relied on GPS navigation, police said Wednesday.

The Ontario Provincial Police said the woman called 911 emergency services on her cellphone for help, after she became lost on her way to work east of Toronto late Tuesday.

"She advised she was standing on top of her car as it was submerged in a heavy marsh," police said in a statement. "She was following her GPS (Global Positioning System) directions and became lost."

The vehicle had become stuck in mud and quickly began filling up with water.

Rescuers searched the conservation area until finally she was spotted "in the middle of the marsh" by firefighters dressed in wet suits who waded into the waist deep water.

Too bad human decency got in the way of natural selection. I feel profound sadness at the contamination of our collective gene pool.

On the way to work? I'm guessing it was to be the first day on the job if she didn't already know how to get there. Probably the last day on the job as I bet her employer fired her for being a dumbfuck.

Haha that picture looks like there's not even a road close. I figured she just drove off the road or something, but it looks like she was bouncing around a field until she hit the swamp. Crazy Canadians!

I wonder what her BAC was?

Michael: Everyone always wants new things. Everybody likes new inventions, new technology. People will never be replaced by machines. In the end, life and business are about human connections. And computers are about trying to murder you in a lake. And to me, the choice is easy.

Windshields people, windshields. Use them. It's really simple, you point your eyes at them and view what is on the other side! It's amazing, and in 3D!

Hah. I do alot of field testing for work, and we go out into the desert out west alot.

Last year one time we were testing in an area 80 miles off a dirt road into the middle of nowhere. We were sitting there testing and out of the blue comes a damn RV. They told us they were lost and they were trying to find some campground. Apparantly their GPS led them 80 miles along a dirt road, which took them almost 4 hours to get back, and at no point did they think "wow, something must be wrong here"

Damn yuppies.

edit: The best part is that they decided to keep going because they "had already come this far". LOL. They probably ran out of gas 200 miles into the desert and were never heard from again.

Check the caption: A submerged car in Chile, seen in February 2010.

o_O How the fuck is that relevant to the article? Why even include it?

I say take the idiot's license away. How dumb/distracted do you have to be to drive over a field before hitting said marsh, and not realize something wasn't quite right?

My gps tried to take me down a road that didn't exist, the other day.
I still found the geocache I came for.

women drivers

took the words right out of my... fingers ?

:hmm:

So anywho... uh, seriously, people are absolutely retarded.

Bet she was on drugs, played it off as the fault of the GPS.

Or she was on the road, and then because she is a woman, over-corrected on some stupid mistake (probably avoiding a small animal), and went high speed off the road.
