NEW YORK - A 76-year-old woman who drove to a cemetery to visit her husband's grave has been killed by her own car.

The woman inadvertently left the car running and in gear when she stopped at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Queens Sunday afternoon, police said.

She was about 50 feet from her husband's grave when the car mowed her down. She died at the scene.

Police say no criminality is suspected.

No criminality is suspected, but stupidity IS highly suspect in the case.

I don't know. It's kind of romantic when you think about it...sort of like "The Notebook." (movie, not the book)

How do people leave their car in gear when they get out of it? I don't care how old you are or if you drive a manual or automatic.. put the car in park, flip the e-break, done.

I don't understand how it "mowed her down". Even in gear, it shouldn't accelerate on its own enough to go too fast. It probably stopped on top of her or something like that.

For some reason, I picture the golf cart chase from Undercover Brother. :)

And I'm happy for the lady - she's in a better place!
