Updated: 9:49 a.m. ET Dec. 19, 2004MELVERN, Kan. - A woman charged with killing an expectant mother and cutting the baby from her womb was showing the child off to people at a cafe and to her pastor hours before she was arrested, residents said Saturday.

Lisa M. Montgomery, 36, was charged Friday with kidnapping resulting in murder and was expected to appear in federal court Monday. The baby, whose mother had been eight months pregnant, was in good condition.

Hours before her arrest, Montgomery and her husband showed off a newborn girl at a restaurant, said Kathy Sage, owner of the Whistle Stop Cafe in Melvern, a small eastern Kansas town.

According to court documents, Montgomery traveled to Topeka, about 30 miles north of Melvern, on Thursday to go shopping. She called her husband from there, saying she had gone into labor and given birth.

That's just terrible. What's wrong with people today? I swear we need to seriously thin the population from all these degenrate low-lifes roaming the streets.
 
The not quite as sick part of this is that there are thousands of children out there that could use foster homes and adoptive homes and these sickos resort to killing an innocent woman and cutting a baby out of her lifeless body.

My wife and I were in a program earlier this year to become foster parents before she got a new job that conflicted with the class schedule. We're hoping she gets the position change she is interviewing for this week so we can re-enroll.

why not adopt a child instead of killing an inocent woman. they both deserve some lethal injection of eternal sleep.
 
i dont think the husband knew about this, he thought she was pregnant. no reason for him to be in trouble if he had no knowledge of it. from the article, it seems as he thought she was pregnant since she called him to tell him she went into labor.

sick bltch needs to die though.
 
Definately screwed up....I grew up about 3 miles from her town and she worked at a Casey's I went to thousands of times. Just makes you wonder how long she thought about this and how someone can turn out like this....

Being a medical professional, who in their right mind could even think about even getting a baby out alive with all that....
