RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — A Bible-waving preacher protesting at a gay pride event in North Carolina turned the other cheek — and got kissed on it by a 74-year-old female gay rights supporter who is now charged with simple assault.
Joan Parker admits she kissed a preacher on the cheek at the event, proclaimed by the Salisbury mayor as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Day.
"He was just waving his arms and has a Bible in one hand, up and down, and screaming at the top of his lungs, `sodomites' and `you're going to hell,'" Parker said in a phone interview. "I thought he needed a hug. So I gave him a hug."
At some point, Parker said, the preacher turned to yell to a man with a camera to take a picture of her. Also at some point, she kissed him. On the cheek, she says, not on the mouth.

You aren't allowed to kiss random strangers if they don't want you to. Based on the law, you pretty much have to find her guilty.

I'd order her to pay a fine of $0.50, the going rate for a kissing booth at a local fair. Seems just.

DON'T TOUCH PEOPLE THAT YOU KNOW DON'T WANT TO BE TOUCHED.
She though she'd be "cute" and make a statement and got in trouble for it. I have no problem with that.
Yet another case of lack of self control.

What a fucking bigot. All that man is made of is hate. You really have to be evil to press charges over a hug and a kiss on the cheek from a stranger.

But was she hot?

LOL, typical bigot. All they do is incite a fight or a passive-aggressive move and as soon as they get what they want, they cry foul and go running to the authorities.

Fuck religious fundies.

Free publicity for the preacher...the only reason he's pressing charges. People need to learn to just ignore people like him...don't give him the benefit of an audience.

i don't know that i'd like some random person laying a wet one on me, but i would more try to just forget it than press charges.

If somebody were to give me a big surprise smacker at a random time on the street I WOULD press charges (provided I didn't find them attractive). If I were out at meeting of any group berating them and telling them that they were hell bound and that's the worst that happened I'd write it off as an occupational hazard and count myself lucky. He wasn't just an innocent bystander who caught some random gay shrapnel. He was trying to start some shit.

Of course, I also think that the real point of "gay pride" parades is to get a rise out of the anti-gay element anyway. There's no reason to be proud of being gay any more than theres a reason to be proud of being straight, but shoving something in the collective faces of naysayers is always fun. So they both ultimately got what they wanted.
