They should be.
I've always heard that if a violent crime victim dies from the injuries within a year and a day the State(in the US) can charge the person(s) responsible with murder. However I have no idea if this true or not.

In case some still think the climate created by Trump had nothing to do with this...
Rodriguez’s attack comes after the Department of Justice released its recent hate crime statistics, reported by KCRA. The 2017 California report, which was the first published since President Trump took office, evinced an uptick of more than 17 percent, with anti-Hispanic and anti-Latino crimes soaring over 50 percent last year, according to the Sacramento Bee.

Lots of very fine people have been emboldened by Trump, some you wouldn't even expect.

Oh, is this where we are now? Thanks Obama has turned into Thanks Trump. Trump is responsible for me stubbing my toe too.

Stupid woman should be behind bars with the keys thrown away. Hopefully that is the result and she gets her own ass beat in jail everyday, then we can relate to Chappelle's "When Keeping It Real Goes Wrong".

I have no doubt that Trump and what he says is part of that uptick. What I don't know is now Trump is responsible for this incident. I think its pretty solid ground to think this woman and her family were and are not supporters of Trump. They are minorities living in CA. Can't know for sure, but I feel pretty safe here.

Trump has created a climate of anti-immigrant sentiment in this country. It wouldn't be a surprise if some of the people affected by that climate aren't even Trump supporters. That said, I have no idea what motivated this particular set of attackers here.

Trump was not responsible for this incident. The woman was. Trump is responsible, however, for promoting at the highest level a culture of violence and xenophobia. The two end up being related to each other, but neither gets to blame the other for their own awfulness.

Just got through explaining this to another poster in a different thread. One person's moral responsibility for a bad incident in no way detracts from another person's moral responsibility for the same incident. The idea that there is a fixed pool of "blame" whereby blaming one person must automatically diminish the legitimate blame of another is a fallacy, and a very common one.

If you want to say the attackers here were individually responsible for this particular incident while Trump is collectively responsible for the society wide uptick in these kinds of incidents, fine. Either way, the blame of one has no bearing on the blame of another.

Defend that, why? Trump is responsible for the bad things he does. It does not make sense to blame him for this incident.

Trump fans the flames of shitty xenophobic hatred in a generalized way. It's contagious, like a biological warfare agent. He sets America up for such incidents & plays innocent, as if leadership doesn't matter. You enable him.

No, it doesn't and it might have well happened the same no matter who is in office. That being said, there is not one shred of doubt Trump is playing the "hate card" in a horrific manner. Any Latino is labeled as "MS 13", anyone coming into the country is out to "rape, kill, and sell drugs". He has repeatedly, (like at all of the many rallies he's at) used this rhetoric and it's a F-ing disgrace. Failing to call out a Nazi group who were responsible for murdering a 29yr old woman and injuring many more is also a disgrace. After 911 happened there were attacks on mosque's around the country, Bush addressed the people with a message that "this is not who we are, this is not what we're about) and that was the correct way to handle it.

Too many to list honestly. Do you think Trump is 100% to blame for this? I think people have been stirring the pot for some time now. The bigger spoon is on the Right by far, but the Left is cutting down a very large tree to try and make their own.

too many to list huh? name 3 then.

People in this country have been hating on immigrants since forever despite themselves being (mostly) immigrants. "Oh hey, did you hear those ______ got $2k for coming to this country? Or that they get free health care? They don't pay taxes... They get help with their apartment, job placement, etc. and I'm a mofo American citizen wtf do I get? I was here first! Those mofo should go back to their mofo country!!!!!!!!!!!" Yeah, that's all new stuff that hasn't been going on till Trump took office :roll eyes:

Didn't say it was entirely new. Re-read the last sentence of the post I responded to. I don't know the source of this particular attacker's anti-immigrant sentiment. Which is why it's tough to pin responsibility on Trump for any particular incident unless his name happens to be mentioned by the attacker. Nonetheless, he bears direct responsibility for the recent uptick in this kind of thing.

Nobody was preaching it from the bully pulpit before Trump.

Sorry, was just commenting on your first sentence and overall sentiment in this thread that it's Trump's fault.

Nobody was preaching it from the bully pulpit before Trump.

He's enforcing the law. That's wrong?

Trump's a nut job. People are nut jobs. Nut jobs do stupid, uncivil things to other people all the time. They have a place for them, jail.

I understand it fine, but you apparently do not.

Hate crime rates in the country’s largest cities have increased for the past four years; all against the backdrop of an overall crime rate that has been declining since the early 1990s.

Tell me, has Trump been president for the past 4 years?
