I just built a new pc (see link in sig for components) and after installing wolfenstein enemy territory, i keep getting "studdering" or "skipping" ever 3 seconds. It only happens sometimes but i have no idea why? I thought it just might be the server but it does it on every server and it even does it when i'm not in a game (such as the starter screen). anyone have a similar problem or know a solution?

edit: no matter what, i've noticed it always starts off doing this, sometimes when i'm in game it will just go away but i dont know why. i tried looking at the console but i couldnt find anything. the fact that its not always there makes me feel that there is some way to maybe stop this however.

Sounds like it's not net lag but your PC. No idea how to fix it, but try getting another Q3 engine game like UrbanTerror.net and see if it does the same thing to see if it's the engine or the game. Maybe that will lead you down a better path, but I don't know.

I heard some people were having problems with quake 3 arena so it might be specific to the q3 engine but i still dont know what to do from there

Are you using vsync? If so, try also enabling triple buffering in the control panel. This helped me with eliminating some stuttering in Prey with an 8800 GTX.

i dont think its the engine, im running quake 3 and et:wolf perfectly fine in vista64 and a quad core. i would play around with the video settings in nvidia control panel. also, how are your other games?

yeah, i no longer think its the q3 engine because i ran other q3 games perfectly fine. also, this is the only game i seem to have a problem with. for example, i can run cs:s at 1680x1050 at max settings no problem.

I want to note that I tried Redox's suggestion, and alot of times, this actually fixes it but it's wierd the way it works. I always had triple buffering on so when i turned on vsync, the studdering would go away. but if i quit and came back, it would resume although if i turned it off and on agian, it would sometimes fix it. its a nice temporary solution but hopefully i can find a permanent solution soon

it might have something to do with your nV drivers.

I use vista, and had issues with 162.22 in ET:QW with skipping and eventually crashing.

I moved to 158.45 and it eliminated the issue.

I'm not sure under XP Pro, but rolling back to some previous stable drivers is worth a shot.
