Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory - WTF? I really suck

ok, i fired this up today....cool game, but WTF is going on? I just get lit up within seconds....I can't even tell who the enemy is!?!? What am I missing here....any tips for the n00b?

before stepping out of the base watch to see if where you are going is being shelled by mortar or artillery. and watch out for the red/blue smoke because that means an airstrike is coming. its full of spam, you are gonna die a lot and you have to accept that.

Airstrikes are the only thing i hate about the game.
