cheex with a 45nm quad core & that mobo on air cooling, you will probably have more trouble with the cpu hitting 500 before the board. you may have trouble with your ddr2 800 before the cpu or mobo, actually.

My RAM does 1000 easy, no problem there.
I don't want a board that is going to limit my OC (like my DS3 now).
I would much rather my CPU maxed out first...for peace of mind.
It really sucks to know that your CPU (main OC ingredient) is held back by something else.

WRONG.. you guys...
let me tell you why its harder for a quad with 2 dies to hit higher then 450fsb.
One a DUAL CORE a single die, there is no FSB communicaiton device inbetween the cores.
This FSB Communication device allows the two dies to talk to teach other and mimic a quad core. Remember yorkies and kents arent native quadcores. There 2 dies stamped on 1 pcb that talk to each other.
Now even if your board can handle 500fsb, which many can, it doesnt MEAN JACK if your chip's fsb communication device cant handle that.
Thats why when you see epenis shots of quads being pushed at 500fsb+ this is absolutely amazing. I usually wont flame on this, as long as a superpi can be run.
Now when people come with fsb's of 450-460 thats when i lay down a can of whoopass if no prime95 is shown.
Just cuz wolfdales are doing 500fsb+ that does not mean the quadcore counterpart, the yorkfield is going to be able to do that.
THERE IS NO MOBO THAT CAN ENHANCE THIS. ITS THE CHIP AND HOW STABLE THE POWER DRAW IS ON THAT CHIP!
If you want to tweek it a little, the BEST anyone can do is give it a monster stable psu, Tier 1, And give it a monster stable board which uses solid state capacitors and is ultra durable. The DQ6 comes to mind when i say this. :T
The DFI LP LT X38-T2R is also something that interests me. So far average high end fsb wall for the quads on this board is around 470-550! NOTE: This is also a 300 dollar board. :T So it wouldnt qualify in ANY BUILD with the words "Budget"

aigo is right, its more difficult for 45 & 65nm quads to hit 450-550mhz fsb. A 45nm dual can do 500 easily, 600 extreme, 650 is the highest i've seen. (far from stable) best stable i've seen is 490-512
Okay, I admit all that is true. Makes sense...but...
I just want to be sure that my CPU is the one component that is maxing out...not anything else....

except there is a little thing called Gunning Transceiver Logic reference voltage, that will help you get to 500 fsb on quads. too bad it rapes the traces on the board, it makes the cpu run much hotter, and it doesn't improve stability all that much.
but I can assure you benching at 500 fsb is possible, and running up to 475 fsb 24/7 is very possible. Just not something that jaredpace or Cheex will be able to do

seriously guys, wolfdale and 450 fsb. set realistic goals, cause if you fall from a short height you might hurt an ankle, but if you fall from all the way up there... splat.

I couldn't get my B3 QX6700 to clock worth crap for FSB above 267 (stock). Could only overclock the CPU with higher mulitpliers (unlocked thankfully). That was on Asus Striker Extreme. Yoxxy recommend Asus P5E WS Pro...now I can clock my B3 with a 400MHz FSB. Simply amazing.
