WOL & Dlink DIR-655 & Power Failure

I'm using the Dlink DIR-655 Router. To invoke WOL I use MagiWol to start a computer in my basement. It ususally works fine. But if I have a power failure, it does not work once power is restored until I manually turn the basement computer on and shut it down.

After I have turned the computer on and off after power is restored MagiWol works just fine again.

I'm thinking that maybe there is some setting I need to change in the router. Is this correct? If so, what would I change in the Router settings?

Thanks.

Hm... that's a tough question. I've done WOL about 5 years back I think, and it worked exactly the same as in your case. WOL would work as long as target computer was powered on before. If I unplugged it from the wall, plugged back in and tried to do WOL, that computer wouldn't wake up. The computers were connected with a switch, so I don't think it's the router, and I don't think there is a setting on the router that would allow you to do that. But YMMV, if by any chance you find a solution, be sure to post it here.

Here's the solution which I found on Tomshardware Forums. Check your Bios under Power Management. You should have a switch which says something like "AC PWR Loss Restart" which you can Enable or Disable. On my EVGA Basement computer motherboard the switch is "PWRON after PWR-Fail." It was disabled and I enabled it.

I have tested this and it works just fine. Only problem is that when power is restored system boots up as I don't have a Previous Statre Option. So I just have to remember that the computer is on after power is restored.
