Didn't expect this at all (the package was only a day late, and I didn't complain):

Hello,

We noticed that one of your orders, #, arrived later than the estimated delivery date of Monday, January 04, 2010. The delay was due to a problem on our end. We’re very sorry for any inconvenience this caused.

To help make up for any disappointment, we’d like to offer you a $10 Amazon Gift Card for use on a future Amazon.com order. The claim code and additional details are below.

We value your business, and we hope to see you again soon.

Sincerely,
Customer Service Department
Amazon.com

Nice. Speaking of Amazon, where is that video card I ordered? My new work desktop only has integrated graphics and I need to hook up my second monitor damnit!

sweet....i love amazon

After I joined prime, I rarely order from other places... I order everything, from cheapy household items (a plunger - was easier than driving to Home Depot and waiting on line) to mp3s....The few times problems occurred (problems that usually were UPS' fault), amazon has gone above and beyond. They even replaced an items UPS delivered to the wrong address by mistake, instead of having me deal with UPS directly.

Does Amazon use UPS or FEDEX for prime? I don't have prime because I live in the city and rarely home so picking up my package at the local USPS office seems like a better fit for me though I do hate when I don't have $25 worth of stuff to buy. :p

You know, I've received prime packages from both UPS and FEDEX. Oddly, I'll buck the trend and say UPS has been pretty solid, while our fedex driver seems absolutely lazy, and leaves a notice even if we're home.

Prime is absolutely worth it- I shared my account with some ATOTers and family and ended up paying less than $20. I'd say I save that much in shipping every 2 weeks.

I don't think I've purchased anything on the intarweb that wasn't from Amazon in over a year.

I needed to return a Kindle that I bought 45 days ago because the sony ereader did what she wanted better. It was outside the return period and just a few clicks printed off return label and dropped in UPS drop-box. Easy peasy.

I have prime. The vast majority of my stuff comes UPS. On occasion (it looks like 2-3x each over the 2 years i've had Prime) Fedex, USPS, and ONTRAC. The only one thay haven't used is DHL. This is in the Seattle area.

The only one I've had issues with is Fedex, everything else always comes in 1-2 days, Fedex rarely hits the 2 day mark.

Bah, mixed bag... I actually prefer UPS over FEDEX myself but only because I know the driver and that he always parks at the same spot near my apartment and is always there at 6pm for those who missed packages and wanted to pick them up before he heads back to the distribution center. Fedex meanwhile always tries to deliver 10am when I'm at work or sometimes leaves packages at my door which get stolen a lot so I avoid them at all costs. I'm like 100/100 for UPS deliveries and 15/20 on Fedex ones. Also why I didn't get prime... as I've stated for the USPS service since the post office is on my home from work. Plus Amazon is so great with shipping items that I usually get them fairly early anyway(for USPS that is).

Same here - returns are absurdly easy and phone support has always been helpful. Christmas shopping took me 15 minutes and I didn't have to worry about receiving packages in time with prime.

Yep, as others have stated they usually use UPS, but I have had a few fedex prime deliveries. My experiences with UPS have been awful in the past, but (for me at least) their service has improved dramatically over the years. Fedex on the other hand used to be my shipper of choice but my local branch has been slipping.

When the USPS decided to deliver my last order to someone else (or outright pilfer the goods), Amazon shipped out a replacement order with 1-day delivery. All of this was on their dime.

I'm still going to file a claim against the USPS, though. Those b-tards should pay for their lousy service--which has been a chronic issue for folks in this area.

for me UPS has beaten Fedex.

i ship things with UPS ground from manhattan to just 10 miles outside the city in jersey. takes 1 day. same when i get stuff from say B&H.

FedEx took 4 full business days to do the same.

I got a $10 bump the first time my Triple Fis got delayed.

2nd time I got a bump to free 1 day shipping. I already selected 2 day whcih cost me $10, but going to free next day also saved me $10. So $20!!! :D
