This is not the first ape to do so. A chimp has done it before too. There was even genetic testing to determine whether it was some sort of chimp/human hybrid. It was definately a chimp, but not quite like other chimps. There were differences in the dna.

That makes sense though, if the part of his brain responsible for instinct was damaged, then he would have more freedom to try things not hard wired into his brain.

I was thinking of it more like a stroke. You know how some people become very....rigid...after suffering one? I would liken it to something like that.
 
I think of it more like because she had a near fatal stomach virus before this that caused the brain damage, and it still hurts, so she walks with her torso straight.

Sheesh. Evolution my arse.
