woah WEIRD PROBELM!!! radio through speakers?

MrDudeMan

ok, my computer is playing the radio THROUGH THE SPEAKERS even when the volume is all the way down. i have no radio tuner in my computer! wtf is going on? how can it be getting random signal to my computer and into my speakers? i have had MANY a computer in this room and none have done anything of the sort.....wtf?

How long is the speaker wire? I had a similar problem with a surround sound setup. Switched to a cheapo 2 piece 🙁 testing only....luckily, and the problem stopped. Now, the real problem is how to get it to stop on your nice speakers.

speaker wire isnt anywhere near the radio tuner in my room. its just the standard length of the logitech z340's. these sound so damn nice, but this radio interfernce is annoying

Are you hearing actual music? I once had a similar problem. A neighbor of mine was a ham radio freak and his 8,000 watts of broadcasting power would bleed into my pc speakers, home speakers, cordless telephone, even speakerphone. Maybe, the interference is coming from a neighbor, it doesn't have to be amateur radio.

I had this problem hooking a surround sound receiver to a VIA AC 97 connection. It only happend when the mini-jack was in a particular position. I was confused about how it decided which FM frequency to pick up, but I recognized the station! Fiddling with the mini jack caused it to cut in and out. I was able to get mine to stop by fiddling a bit.

Good luck!

PS. If anyone has any idea why this happens, I'm really curious.

It's proby a problem with a high power signal or wire insulation. I used to fool around with getting radio signals by putting my quartz guitar tuner on top of my amp... I was really confused the first time it happened. I'd try moving them around to many different places. Try adjusting the width between speakers and possibly a wall mount. I get interference with my downstairs phone from pipes in the ceiling. Good luck. 😛

Oh yeah, and the z340s are sweet, I've got a pair too. BLuuuu light keeps distracting me. I heard somewhere the subwoofer is really a 4" with a diaphragm, is that true? (being completely OT...) 🙂

wow this is weird! if anyone has a solution feel free to volunteer. i will mess around with it tomorrow and see wht i can come up with. thanks so far everyone! g'night!

I imagine there's more than one way this can happen, but my first thought was along the line that BigBox opened. Loops of wire, like the ones to/from your speakers, do act like antenna and can pick up signals that feed back into the amplifier but the signal would have to be really strong (like you live within a mile of a radio tower). I remember one case like this where we were getting radio reception through a old phonograph. Might also be picked up in your house wiring and leaking into the amplifier through the power supply. I'd have thought that it'd be more likely to be AM rather than FM (as is Nate's case). Sorry I can't be more helpful.

that was helpful power engineer.

is there any kind of coated insulation for the wires or something that i can buy? i mean like shielding, something that will kill the signal.

thanks

This happens to mine occasionally, scares the hell out of me sometimes. I will be sleeping (computer off) and all of a sudden some random person is talking to me over the computer speakers I accidentally left on. Needless to say I shut them down when I crash now.
