WMV files have distortion.

For the past few weeks, random .wmv files have been giving me negative images when I try to play them. I watch them on MPC, and when I tried it on other video players, they still don't work. Another forum said that there may be something up with a filter and I should check that out, but when I tried doing what they said nothing changed.

Any suggestions or ideas?

I cannot attest to a reinstall of the player, but in the past, video issues like this have been video driver related. Are there newer drivers for your card/video chipset? That may be the quickest way to a fix.

At one point my video overlay settings went wacky for no reason I can think of (I certainly didn't do it on purpose)... the color adjustments in the video driver. I reset it to defults & all was well.

i'm having the exact same problem. i tried disabling wmv acceleration in the control panel and that did nothing either.

UPDATE: I went to meda player classic options, selected overrides, then i selected the wmvideo 8 decoder, wmv secreen decoder, and wmvideo decoder and set them all to block and now the files are working properly.

I had that problem recently, it was because i installed the wmv9 codecs on mp8. I installed mp10 over that, and it fixed it.

Upon further inspection, everytime I ran a file that had distortion it would suddenly make an empty .txt file named, "dxva_sig.txt". I trieed Stoneburner's instructions and that didn't do anything.

And thank you Raduque, reinstalling WMP10 fixed it. 🙂

Here's a bump for anyone else with this problem.
