I have WMP 11. I was tried uninstalling my codecs and seeing if that made a difference and it does not. It is incredibly annoying, because if I was playing a video, I close the media player and it continues playing sound until I end process, while at the same time it sucks up resources. Have anyone else had this problem?

I need WMP 11 for nvidia Purevideo to work, so going to Media Player Classic or various lighter mediaplayers is not really an option (unless you can tell me how to get Purevideo to work with other players).

I am using XP Pro SP2, all windows updates are installed.

Deathwalker hit on my first recommendation. Roll it back to WMP10, you can try to reinstall 11 then if you want but it might be a permanent bug until Microsoft fixes it.

Less likely but worth trying is updating sound card drivers, and pretty much all other drivers, it can't hurt. Registry cleaner couldn't hurt either. Not that I think either of those solutions will work, but those are the first 2 things I always recommend just to reduce variables.
