**** WMP12 + XBOX360

I have an external hard drive connected and trying to stream with WMP12 to the XBOX 360. Nothing shows up.

What gives?

Let's not swear in the titles....mmmmkay?

Queasy

Works perfectly fine for me.

- You sure the settings are all correct under the streaming options in Win7? Xbox360 shows up in the devices list, and your desired media types are "allowed"?
- UPnP WMP Media Network Sharing services are enabled?
- Have you tried testing the connection to the computer on the xbox?
- Could be a router or firewall problem, etc, etc...

I'm certain that they're correct...I have no idea WTF is going on here.

Its seriously ridiculous. It used to work perfectly on XP/Vista...but NOT NOW. FRICK.

Also double check the default media settings for all devices vs any possibly customized media settings for the 360. As well, make sure the network is designated "private" and not public by accident.

Also just try hitting block all, and then allow all. I dunno, maybe it'll reset something.

If all else fails, start from scratch. Disable all streaming options. Remove the 360 from the device list, and start over.

Where can I find this?

Network and Sharing Center.

You network should be listed as either "Home Network", "Work Network" or "Public Network". If it's public, I'm fairly positive it needs to be changed.

Most likely MS doesn't want you streaming your media to everyone at your local Starbucks, which would ideally be labeled a Public network. As well, they don't want needless ports and services open to the wide world, just waiting to be exploited.

If it still doesn't want to work, peruse through the Event Viewer to see if anything stands out.

Beyond all that, I would be at my wits end as well. Possibly someone else could help, or check the xbox.com forums if you haven't.

Have you tried ps3 media server? Works on the xbox as well. Seems to be alot more consistant than using WMP.
