WMP video playback ISSUE when using HQ mode

had this problem for a while, before the 77.77's and i was hoping it would of been fixed...if its a widespread problem

if it isnt, then im doing something wrong

when playing back video, particularly of the Mpeg 4 variety, the video will frequently stutter and jump. its like, the video has gotten ahead of itself, then tries to rewind back to where it should be, but then goes to far, and tries to jump back forward again. and it does this continuously and very fast. making it all jerky and stuttery.

furious mouse clicking seems to get it to go away. if i use Overlays this problem disappears, but i like to use HQ mode.

anybody else get this problem?

Using a MSI K8N SLI, X2 3800+, and eVGA 6600GT I have experienced no playback issues. However, throw in a BFG 6800GT and I get similar issues, I'm thinkin' it's the borked PVP that is responsible perhaps.

you think?

i didnt realise the PVP did any Mpeg4 decoding

nV originally stated that the nv40 would do MPEG-1/2/4 encoding/decoding and WMV9 and H.264 decoding. Of course the PVP turned out to be borked on nv40/45 as is well known. X-bit and this site are 2 instances where I saw that nV claim printed for the 6800 series. With the 7800series being the first to evidently hardware decode H.264, I can only speculate that with a borked PVP most forms of hardware decode are not properly processed, and that the drivers may even be causing issues with having it software decoded? Pure speculation about purevideo on nv40/45 on my part, but I don't have any other guess why I don't get the issue with nv43.

Perhaps one of our members will have some technically based explanation or resolution for the playback problems; I got nothin'.

What do you mean by furious mouse clicking? Are you saying the video and audio are out of sync? Just the video that stutters or does the audio also break up and stutter, or it just continues?

no audio is just fine....its the video. it jitters about all over the shop. doesnt happen all the time, but sometimes, especially with the top gears ive downloaded or encoded there'll be like 30 sec of just the video stuttering an jumping, then it'll stop for a bit, then it'll start up again

then oddly enough, if i click the mouse a few times, it stops

Sure your CPU is fast enough to decode the content? I'm guessing it's either a DirectX9 problem or a performance problem. What codecs of MPEG-4? WMV9? H.264? DIVX6? XVID?

yes of course. its just a Divx, doesnt really matter about the bit rate, infact the top gears are a fairly low bit rate.

im trying to upgrade to DIVX6, i have dr divx now, and i wanna upgrade for the measly $10, but their site is messed up, the switch card number entry boxes have too many spaces...so it keeps kicking me back saying u havent filled the form in correctly

worth re-installing DX9.0C you think?
