WMP is quiet compared to other programs

If I were to watch a video in WMP and play a song in another program, the song would easily drown out WMP. I have WMP on its highest volume setting. This is driving me crazy.

I want to be able to turn WMP up loud (compared to the other PC sounds), so I can hear sounds from other programs and not be overly distracted.

You're in bad luck. Every Win program uses "Wave volume" which means you can't set a specific (louder) volume for any program. If your movie is quiet it's because it's soundtrack is "quiet", that is the waveform does not take the entire 16 bit range. You can reduce the problem by turning it up in preamp (don't know if WMP has one, try the codecs) or by making the other programs quieter (winamp's easy, but for system sounds you have to modify (make quieter) .wav files that are those sounds.

I know what you mean, if I load a DivX movie I encoded in WMP 10 and in MPC, the MPC will be noticeably louder.

MPC is better, with everthing on max settings and the boost on max it is almost acceptable.
