WMP in WinXP..need help!

Upgraded Win98SE system to XP Home.
Lost functionality of WinDVD and EasyCD Creator 3.0...will have to upgrade :-(

WMP for XP now is buggy. When I insert Audio CD a warning msg appears:
"Windows Media Player: An internal application error has occured" ?
The Player will not launch automatically.
However, when I first launch WMP and THEN put in an audio CD, it runs fine.
During the Upgrade process I recall a message stating the WMP had an error in the installation process.

Any suggestions on a fix? Is it possible to re-install JUST WMP from the Upgarde CD?
