WMP in Vista won't play DVDs

I've got a codec pack installed and everything (think it's K-Lite), but WMP doesn't want to play DVDs.

"Can not play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card"

Should I uninstall my codec packs?

I would just use VLC to play it, but VLC isn't worth using in Vista.

Try upgrading the firmware on your DVD rom. Windows Vista includes a decoder for DVD playback so it should work fine. Vista sucks and sometimes is picky about certain DVD roms and older firmwares.

Also, if you have a NEC drive and you're using hacked firmware for bitsetting, you have to revert to the original firmware :\

I've read elsewhere that this problem has something to do with not having Vista-compatible codecs. Specifically, the codecs don't play well with Vista's protected content path.
I get this problem as well (using codecs installed with Roxio Creator Suite 9), but I still have an XP partition on which I can play DVDs.
