WMP Codec Woes

Got all the latest XP updates, Windows Media Player 10 and now the Nvidia purevideo decoder, which is the preferred codec, but WMP won't play DVD video, just the audio. The Codec is visible in the status bar, so maybe not the issue.
Tried all free codecs but nothing works. It's a Dell XP with Cyberlinks PowerDVD etc. installed - Dell's Media Experience will play it, but not Windows Player.
Any ideas?
