WMP 10 not showing video but has sound

I have a wierd problem here, whenever I play .mpg, .asf, or similiar files on windows media player 10, it doesn't give me the video, only the sound.. The same files can be played on Winamp and QuickTime ok...

Why ? Any ideas ?

My system is running on WinXP SP2..

help...!!

Its likely you don't have the video codec installed. WMP will automatically attempt to connect to MS and DL the correct codec, if you set it up to autoDL codecs in the options.

Most videos seem to be either DivX or XviD, but I've been seeing quite a few BT! and MKV vids around lately as well. You can try DLing the latest DivX codec from DivX.com and the latest xvid codec at xvid.org. I don't have a link handy for MKV/Matroska codecs though, you'll have to search for it.

Probably the easiest thing to do is to head over to www.doom9.org and DL their latest codec pack. Usually, codec packs are bad, but Doom9's is excellent, and you can pick and choose which codecs to install from it during the install.
