WMI information corrupted. (Win XP)

Earlier - I was unable to get out of windows safe mode - so I did a "dirty install" - and reinstalled the windows files - that fixed the problem - except now - I can not get wireless networking to function. I get the "Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) information might be corrupted" Sicne my original safe mode problems - I have not been able to do a system restore. On the networking configuration -advanced properies tab. I have made sure my router is broadcasting the SSID, and there are no security measures on it - to give the notebook as much chance to detect a network - but it is not detecting anything.

MS says to do another install. I made sure the servies were turned on before the install - did the install - and they still aren't working.

Any ideas?

The problem has been fixed - but no thanks to MS.

By deleting the files in the windows/system32/wbem/repository, restarting and starting the event logging service - WMI came back to life.

perhaps the files did not need to be deleted - but that was from a tip found on the web (whose instructions did not ultimately help - only when combined with turning the event logger on)
