12-17-2003 Find The WMD Game

It may sound like the game has a political subtext ? a satire of the hunt that has thus far found no real WMDs in Iraq. If no one finds the trophy by Election Day 2004, Messer will send the gold and the barrel of oil to President Bush.

But Messer said he has no agenda. He calls himself "a slightly liberal Republican" who believes there are weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, but he's not sure if America will ever find them.

I think going into a long winded speech about WMD's would have been in bad taste (regardless of how you feel about Bush, the War and the reasons we're there). Our boys finally captured that scumbag and that's why he made any statement.

God bless our troops over there and they deserve a massive pat on the back for risking their lives day after day. Saddam's been captured and that's some great news in the midst of all the losses we and the Iraqi people suffer each day.

Blair gave a speech earlier today around 9am our time and he did not mention the WMD either.

There were posts and discussions here about Blair's pre-war speech where he said Saddam will unleash WMD in 45 minutes.
How quickly people forget. Especially Bush loyalists.

Nowhere does it say that Saddam was going to launch WMD in 45 minutes. Those links say that Saddam COULD launch WMD in 45 minutes. Sorta like it could take GWB 5 minutes to give the order to launch nukes.

Blair was making the threat known, making it clear how little time they would have if Saddam would decide to do it.

I don't think the word "England" was used in that context. Their missle capabilities were less than 800km as I understand it and more like 300 km max.

Why exactly should WMDs be mentioned? Saddam was captured - THAT was the news - THAT is what Bush spoke about.

I think people are still trying to find things to overshadow this capture event with other "why not..." rhetoric. Yes we still need to secure the country, Yes we still need to capture OBL, Yes we still need to find out what happened to the WMDs - but that DOES NOT mean that this capture of Saddam isn't a big event. Not only is it a big event in our continued war in Iraq - but it is a HUGE event for the people of Iraq. Saddam will no longer be a threat to the people of Iraq - He will never return to power. Hopefully the people of Iraq will be able to free themselves from the fear that he might return. Sure there may be more attacks - sure there might be more "stormy weather" ahead in Iraq but this most definately is good news for all involved....except for Saddam loyalists Maybe now people will focus on the other good news and allow it to be reported...but maybe I ask/expect too much...

Just a question I asked myself during all the shows this morning which none of them to my knowledge addressed specifically was - I wonder how much manpower will be freed up to now focus on other things instead of just Saddam. IMO there had to have been hundreds if not thousands of people(across many agencies and units) whos specific task it was to find Saddam.
This question has nothing to do with the Kay thing but todays events could however affect the outcome of the continuance of the Kay situation. But that can be addressed in a different thread. I am very curious to see what kind of manpower was specifically assigned to finding and tracking Saddam - IMO the number was quite significant.

The claim was that it was thought that Iraq could launch WMD within 45 minutes of giving the order. Launch...as in ground troops (or a similarly close target). A while back Dave was like "Oh my GOD!!! Blair said that Iraq could attack England with WMD within 45 minutes!" I told Dave "No Dave. The claim wasn't that he could attack England, but that he could attack ground troops." Apparently Dave chose to ignore this because he has stated this false claim on numerous occasions since that.

If someone is still a subscriber they could do a 'body' search for '45 minutes' by me....to verify my story.
