When I watch live tv on my htpc from hdhomerun prime..the HD video keeps stuttering.

My specs are:

i3 3225
Intel mATX DH77EB
8gb RAM
120GB SSD
Radeon 6570
Intel 6205 Desktop wireless card
verizon fios 35/35

The HD video keeps stuttering every now and then. I tested the wireless speed and show 30+ meg download on every test.

When I use the ethernet connection on my living room there is no video stuttering and it only happens when I use the wireless on my other room.

Isn't 30 meg enough speed to watch wirelessly?

I also have an roesewill wirless n pcie card and its the same on that as well, the video keeps stuttering.

what could be the reason for the video stutter?

Run a cable temporarily to that computer and see how well it plays. If it works, you have your answer.

You can test your network connection with jperf/iperf. A download test won't tell you enough.

By "tested the wireless speed" are you referring to your wireless router from computer to computer or something like speedtest.net that tests the ISP's speed? If that's the wireless speed, are there any other devices connected to the wifi network like a smart TV, or something else like a microwave that might be causing interference?

Yes I meant the speedtest.net.

My intel desktop card says it will support 5GHz also and my verizon modem/wireless router also supports 5GHz. is there anyway I can switch to 5GHz instead of 2.4GHz to check if its because of the interference?

Speedtest is not testing your wifi, just the transfer speed between your location to some other location in the country so it has no bearing on wifi speed. Generally, 5GHz does transfer a bit faster but 2.4 should still have more than enough bandwidth, and 2.4 is actually less affected by interference. I'd repost this in the networking subforum and see what you get. I'm far less edumafied on wireless than others here, and that would be the place to get these answers.

Thanks. I have posted on the networking forum about how to connect on 5GHz.

Read my comment above about jperf/iperf. It will help you test your network.

I had the same issue. I was trying to run my HD Homerun over wireless. I ended up ditching it and using a Powerline adapter. Even then its still occasionally pixelates. I'm intending to hook up my HD Homerun directly to the HTPC to eliminate the issue.

As others have said, wireless sucks when you're trying to use it for video. Broadcast TV is supposed to be at 19Mb/s and the slightest reception problem on the wifi can cause hiccups. People who run extenders with Media Center discovered this long ago.

Wireless is the issue. Trouble is you get little hiccups here and there and WMC doesn't buffer or whatever so your video is interrupted.

you need to go into the router and choose 5ghz only, theres an option for that or an option for 2.4ghz only or a mixed mode but if you only want 5ghz you have to change the setting, but then remember any device that does not have 5ghz will not be able to connect
