WLAN WEP cons?

Is it true that WEP security slows down the Internet and highers the ping a bit in WLAN networks?

WEP and WPA encryption do add a bit of overhead in terms of calculations needed to encrypt/decrypt the traffic, but do not have major impacts on performance.

In other words, yes, there is some perfomance impact, but it is not noticeable, and the benefits (security) far outweigh any drawbacks.

early on they had a major impact, but many of the chipsets used now can do the encryption/decryption in hardware which was the performance hog.
