I apologize if someone already posted this question.
I switched from a SMC wireless router to a Linksys Wirelss-B router recently. I guess many folks here already knew how terrible the SMC wireless combo can be and how rock solid Linksys is. However, I still experience loss of wireless connection, though much less frequently.
I suspect the problem is in the old SMC wireless adapter which I am still using on my laptop. Somehow it prefers to connect with my neighbor's router instead of my own, even though my router is closer to it and gives a much much stronger signal!
I noticed that, during my connection loss, the SMC adapter detects 2-3 routers in my neighborhood. And it invariably prefers connection with one particular neighbor router. Whenever this neighbor turns on his router, my adapter will drop connection with my Linksys and connect to that one (though I cannot get online through that router).
Why does it prefer a signal with only 2 bars strength when the signal strength of my own router is 4 full bars?
Anyone know what to do with this problem? Thanks!
PS: My SMC wireless card has the latest firmware and driver.
