We live about 200m from the Wisconsin River. We're well above it, but it took out the street that runs next to it. It appears to be up about 8'. It's pretty impressive.

1977, we (my family) sat in the road watching our double wide home being flooded by the Tug river. After a day or so, the water still rising, the home broke loose from the foundation and swayed back and forth in the water held only by the power lines. Finally, the lines gave way and my home washed down the river. I remember looking at my mom and watching the tears run down her face. At the time, I didn't understand how much or why it hurt her. I now understand...and couldn't imagine watching my home be swallowed and then swept away by flooding water.

One of the saddest things you could ever witness.....when it's happening to you.

So.. instead of running down to help them sandbag and save your fellow human being... you ran home and posted on ATOT?

Your god is weeping for you.

There wasn't much to be done. It only effected a handful of houses in my neighborhood. The water receeded last night.

You should build an ark and watch as things you don't like get wiped out by the wrath of God.

I've been wondering if I need to get flood insurance myself. We live within 100ft of a system of canals. Now we get some Biblical storms in America's Wang, but never has that canal risen very far. It does seem to be managed well. However if the slab cleaner ever does come through, I'm screwed if the damage is flood related. Renters policy only covers contents for calamities other than flood.
