Without checking the specs, which car is heavier?

Answer the poll, without checking specs of course. Just to see what the majority of people think, and to see if most or many people are misled or not.

iirc the 01 Prelude weighs somewhere in the neighborhood of 3200lbs (not with driver). I'm not sure how much the Camaro back then weighed but I'm guessing probably that much or less

The results aren't as expected, but still... many people think the Camaro is heavier - and I'm sure many of those votes think it's MUCH heavier.

Well, standard Prelude vs standard Camaro = same weight! The V8 Cam weighs a bit more, but it also has exactly double the Prelude's torque. :D

2001 Prelude SH:
Weight: 3042 lbs.
Engine: 2.2L 4cyl. 200HP / 155ft-lbs
FWD
Max HP at 7000rpm, max TQ at 5250rpm

1991 Camaro Z28:
Weight: 3298 lbs.
Engine: 5.0L V8. 230HP / 300ft-lbs
RWD
Max HP at 4400rpm, max TQ at 3200rpm

prelude standard isn't the SH model.
the SH model is the model with ATTS

standard model is under 3000 lbs ... more like 2965lbs or something

oops read it wrong.

how much does the v6 weigh for the camaro ?

But it has more than twice as much displacement.

The 1991 Camaro was one of the heaviest. Quote the weight of the 1987 Camaro.

Max HP at 440 rpm on the Camaro? Max HP at engine idle? Crazy!

I think not. The standard Camaro of 1991 is a 3.1L V6. 3.1L is not more than twice the displacement of 2.2L. Even the V8 is only 5.0L which is just over double the displacement.

btw yes I meant 4400 rpm it was a typo

Damn you people read my post!

I said standard prelude vs standard camaro = same weight

I then listed the top-end models of each car - which do not weigh the same.

both camaro and prelude 'standard' models weigh about 3000lbs (not exactly but they're both very close)

The Type-SH and Z28 models weigh differently, and thanks to the V8 the Camaro out-weighs the Prelude. It more than makes up for that weight. :p

So? What's your point? When is it a bad thing to have torque? I hope you're not one of those Hondaboys that runs around quoting "per liter power" to make yourself feel better about having no power or torque. My model airplane engine has a hell of a lot of per liter power, but it wouldn't accelerate a car very fast. Neither does a Civic engine.

I think you should be clearer as to year and engine model in your poll. That generation of Camaro wasn't very impressive specwise, what's really surprising is the numbers on some of those early 80's Vettes. (compared to their counterparts several decades before and after anyhow)

I think I was clear enough. Everything referred to was "base model" unless otherwise specified. And it was otherwise specified when the performance specs were posted. I thought it was perfectly clear, but anyhow..

Cam specs not very impressive? What car from the mid to late eighties /early nineties did you find impressive, in ITS pricerange?

I agree, the V6 is nothing to write home about - but you think 200hp/150tq is great in the prelude? bwahaha :p its OK, but insufficient for its weight. The Z28 cam's V8 is muuuch better suited to a car of such weight, with 300 torque and 230 horses (I believe the WS6 Firebird makes 320 torque and 240hp :D)

Yes it did! That's okay though. For me, I'll take an 89-model (any year of that model) Firebird WS6 as long as it's a 5-speed 240hp/320tq 305 TPI. Sweetness. I don't care if it's 3000lbs or 3400lbs, its going to rip. :p
