Hi,

i was about to get the Galaxy 9600GT. it is ratherly cheap and fast although not as fast as 8800GT.

But until i heard that the 8800GTS is dropping the price for 9800 series.
I wonder when will it be on the shelf?

My budget is aorund $250. Is it possible to get a 9800 series like 9800GT in a month with that price tag?

I just need it to fire up a 20" LCD for now and may be fire a 24" after a few months.
I will use this videocard for around 2years

I would get a 8800gt and call it a day.

Far as I know 9800gt is the same g92 chip with faster clocks.

i will only get a single card solution as my motherboard doesn't support SLI/crossfire

As in the beginning i don't think getting a 2 cards solution is worth of every penny.
Of course 2 is faster than 1, but just you have to get a very huge dollar to gain may be 1/3 - 2/3 performance.

anyways, my local stores haven't dropped the price for a 88GTS yet.
88GTS 512mb is still over $330.

I know GTS is faster than 88GT > 96GT, however, how much will the difference be?

98GT is G94 gen with higher clock rate, i guess it is still better. more shaders and or with more technologies to speed things up?

another question, if a card that has coolermaster/Zalman heatsink fan, is it better than any stock HSF? cuz i don't know if a CM/Zalman will ruin the ventilation of the case.

just find out today on magazine that XFX and Albatron 8800GTS 512mb can be owned for $260 which is within my budget.

However i find out that 9600GT is only somewhere around $170.

comparing performance, do you think for $100 more to get a return of 10fps a worth or a waste?

ex. 88GTS @ 1680x1050(4xAA) 27fps
96GT @ 180x1050(4xAA) 21fps

got the data from a local pc magazine.
i have a thought, thinking of a 9800GT and 8800GTS, anyone got any benches to these and price?

edit: i also want to put this in, I have a Antec HE 500 PSU. along with Asus 7900GT.
The videocard i am using need 6pin cable from PSU. Do any of the cards i mentioned need 8pins? Is 500W psu juicy enough?

Well, the 9800 GT requires a 8 pin connection, but I don't think the 8800 GTS or the 9600 GT require 8 pins.
I would just go with the 8800 GTS if the price comes down, if not get a 8800 GT, works beautifully for me.

Not really a big fan of 9600 GT. Just because they are cheap and seem to have okay performance doesn't mean you should get it. You did say, you want a card that lasts you at least 2years. I don't think the 9600 would hold up quite so strong as the 8800 GT or 8800GTS two years from now.

Thats just my personal opinion that I am sharing with you, I don't want to start any firestorms.

I've decided that 1gb is worth it for 1920x1200 because that res pushes some textures out of 512mb VRAM. Even older games like BF2 and BF2142 max out 512mb, and use 100mb of system RAM.

I'd get an 8800gt for $170 and then save the other $80 for my next gfx upgrade.
