With the current pricing, why get a 3800+ over a 3400+?

You can get a 3400+ 2.4 ghz newcastle socket 754 with 512k L2 cache for 288$ or a 3800+ 2.4 ghz 512k L2 cache socket 939 for 620$. Am I correct in saying the only real difference here is that the 3800+ has dual channel capability (yielding almost no performance gain)?

Keep in mind the 3500+ is only $340 or so. Skt939 is a better future proofing choice.

You would be correct as far as the CPUs are concerned however 939 motherboards offer 4 DIMM slots whereas 754 boards only offer 2 or 3 slots...still, it's not worth it in my opinion either...

I dont see how the minimal performance gain from DC ram can be translated to an additional 400 pts in PR.

Newegg doesn't seem to have it. I saw it at monarch computers, check pricewatch too.

AT has a review of the 939 performance ratings that shows they are acceptable.
