with the 8800gt being released...

So the old 640mb will drop to $269.99 and the GTX to $424.99? The Ultra price would be too high still with a 15% drop IMO, it would still be ~$510.

but the gt has better performance than the gts, right?

Yeah, the 640mb GTS rarely has an advantage except in certain games where bandwidth or frame buffer becomes an issue. Though I think a slightly higher msrp does make sense because it has more brute force power and a dual slot cooler would be a luxury for someone on a tight budget--silence *and* performance!

since i am asked for a prediction ... generally no ... at least with nvidia cards

i bet the stock of GTS/GTX is pretty low and what is left will sell mostly with rebates.

otoh, the 2900xt may well be blown out for $250 as AMD probably has little better control of their partners than ATi did 😛

were we will see BIG price drops is with the used cards ... the current GTS/XT owners will take it in the shorts when they try to sell their cards as there will be a GLUT ... that is where the real bargains may be found.

^^^MY prediction^^^^

coming true already 😛

i saw this in hot deals ... 2900xt for $287 ... of course it IS refurbished ... but .... *evidence* ...

wait till 3800 is released ... if it is a GT competitor, they will have to give 2900xt away
[i hope]

You DO realize that the 2900xt is a pretty unpopular video card 😛
😕
-i want to take FULL advantage of that fact and run 2 for cheap
[sub$500 - my goal - 2900xt CrossFire should be able to run Crysis satisfactorily in at least maxed out DX9 ]

my MB supports Crossfire but it's 16x/4x not sure if that would even be worth tossing 2 cards in, I'd love to see the 2900xt's drop in price *IF* running Crossfire on my board would give me a decent boost. anything that pushes prices down is a god send.
