with residential VoIP (vonage and others), do you have to plug directly into the box?

do you have to plug every phone you use directly into the VoIP box, or can you just plug it into a wall jack and then plug phones into other wall jacks?

If you disconnect the main line coming into the box from outside and plug the Vonage box into a phone jack, all of the phone jacks will be live.

The magic of home wiring.

If you live in an apartment it can be a little tricky doing that however. Remember, you have to disconnect the main line for the phone, like from the phone box completely.

You can also try getting an adatpor to plug it into the second line of all the phone jacks if you can't disconnect the main line. Some apartments don't wire the second line up at all.

Also, with today's cordless phones that let you expand up to 10 handsets from one phone jack, it's a non issue.

My box was in the basement, and the main line plugged into it, I just unplugged it...
