So freakin' lame. SS probably saved Grimes' bacon from living under a bridge or in a refrigerator box, but he and the usual Righties denounce it, anyway, 'cuz it's soshulist...

He doesn't have to take it. Maybe he should stand up for his principles and just starve...

“If you quit giving people that stuff, they would figure out how to do it on their own,” Mr. Grimes said.

Not him, of course... somebody else. Faced with the results of their own stupidity on a personal and political level, Teabaggers just go to Disneyland...
Lol, so if the government wants to give back some of the money they took from you, you think they should turn it down because they disagreed with the government taking the money in the first place? Brilliant!

"I think its bullshit that your taking this money from me so I am going to let you keep it!! That will show you!"

There's something screwy with this, too-

But real estate agents told them the home would sell for about $40,000 less than they paid 19 years ago — not enough to pay off their mortgage.
I'd believe $40K underwater thru a refi cashout, or a series of them, not on the original mortgage... Housing prices were much, much lower 19 years ago... their equity should be large after 19 years of payments and even minimal appreciation.

I'm sure it's all Obama's fault. He's been forcing them to be stupid, greedy and emotional for the last 30 years or so, right?

Timewarp mind control of the most pernicious kind...

The reason these people are out of jobs is because of government interference. Minimum wage laws and union favoritism prevent them from offering their services for less money. Consequently, they can offer their services for free no problem. There must be something wrong with that?

Bottom line: These people want to work but government laws and regulations make it it hard for companies to hire them.

Now if the government allows companies to hire these guys for 2 dollars an hour. At 50 hours a week, if the husband works, the wife works and the two children do their part, they will make enough to room with another family in a low cost of living area. They can put food on the table and live a dignified life.

What's funny is that your posts are serious.

Interesting.

People who are on a government program aren't allowed to complain about government programs?

So, the government can create a mandatory government program thereby silencing all who would otherwise complain about establishing such programs.

I don't think those quotes are so much facepalms, instead they are examples of people who were never before concerned with politics suddenly becoming d@mn concerned.

This. I think Social Security was a bad idea but by the same token, I've been forced to pay into it my whole life under the idea that it would be there for me when I retire. It isn't hypocritical in the slightest for me to expect it back even though I dislike SS. I deserve my money back though all of us know we aren't going to see it.

You lefties don't want some of us to receive it because of the "ironing" of us receiving it while denouncing SS? Fine by me -- stop taking it out of my taxes and give me a lump sum payment of the money I've paid into the system.
Even were I to accept this reasoning, the blogger I mentioned, whose name is Mike Vanderboegh, doesn't live off SS retirement checks. He actually lives off SS disability checks. He is, in other works, someone who is of working age, but lives off the government doll.

The disability system works like an insurance plan, meaning everyone makes very small payments into the system, the vast majority never use it, but those who do take substantially more out than they ever put in. So at the very least, he is a net drain on tax payer dollars.

Interestingly, his disabilities are not severe enough to prevent him from going to militia rallies and toting guns around in a threatening fashion, but they apparently preclude him from holding down any sort of job. It's obviously why he can spend so much time on the internet inciting people to break windows.

Yet assuming, for the sake of argument, his disabilities are serious enough to prevent him from working, where exactly would he be if this government program didn't exist? Clearly, he'd be a lot worse off without it, wouldn't he?

Oh, please, Fern. It seems entirely likely that these people raved against SS their whole lives. When it turns out that they need it, and accept it, they never miss a beat, never pause to reflect for even a moment that they might have been wrong the whole time, that they'd be SOL in a big way w/o it.

It's fine for people to criticize SS, but it's even more important for people to look at themselves, to examine their belief structure as dispassionately and objectively as they can. Righties on the fringe are exceptionally poor at that, obviously, so that Hannity, O'Reilly Rush and Beck can simply push their buttons with entirely predictable results. The eschew independent thinking and introspection in favor of reacting to whatever stimulus a trusted source provides. It's easy, and emotionally satisfying, too.

Hell, RR pulled the old rope-a-dope on 'em 30 years ago, and they loved it at the time, still hold him in reverence because he did it so well. At this point, they believe what they believe because they believe it, and exist in a state of full blown denial. Their whole social, economic, and political frame of reference exists outside of reality.

I bought my current house in 1988. While I haven't had it appraised recently, I'm professionally involved with residential real estate. I don't think it is worth more now than our 1988 cost plus the expense of an addition we put on five years ago (and we paid shell costs only for the addition and finished it ourselves). And we live in an area of the country that has not seen the plummeting declines in the last few years, like CA, FL and Las Vegas.

We have refinanced but always at a reduced principal amount to obtain reduced interest rates. Also, if the average person looks at an amortization table they would be shocked at how front loaded the interest is. For example, 100k at 8% for 30 years (fantastic rate 20 years ago) is $773.76 P&I monthly, and the first month's principal payment is $67.09. After 20 years (two thirds the loan period) you still owe over 60% of the original principal..

Back on point, I wonder if he has a "Keep Your Government Hands Off My Medicare" sign.

Wow, you found a couple of people on the right wing who are living of SS.
Wonder how many people are living off of socialism at all the left wing protests we have on a regular basis?

I just love how they are getting their panties in a twist now that a lot of people in the US are moving to the right.

Well, Thump, the fact remains that homeowners who bought 19 years ago should have sizeable equity if they just kept paying the original mortgage- you said so yourself, in a roundabout way. The notion that they wouldn't is absurd, in a general case scenario. Prices have declined only over the last few years, certainly not to a significant level below 1991 prices.

I didn't look for those people, they pretty much jumped in front of the bus.

I don't know how many "leftists" are living off SS or SS disabilities, but at least they're consistent wrt what they say and what they do.

"A lot of people in the US are moving to the right?" More like those on that fringe are jumping off the edge... aided by some truly cruel agitprop and the usual press-grabbing astroturf campaigning. Not to mention that the last general election, 2008, and the one before, 2006, would seem to indicate otherwise...

I'm sure you'll believe what you want to believe- it's a basic characteristic of denial and Righties in general.

It isn't a retirement fund it is Social Security. If your brother lost his life don't you want his children taken care of? If you see an old person on the street don't you want to know that they can see a doctor or have minimum food requirements met? It is the 20th century version of barn raising. We are our brothers keeper! (and sisters too)

Yes I do want these things, but someone who doesn't shouldn't need to pay for it. You have 7/10 people who want to help that old man and 3 that don't. Well, why don't those 7 people pool their money privately and help that man? Why should they force the 3 that don't give a damn to pay up too? That doesn't make sense.

This reminds me of the tea party blogger who encouraged people to break windows of dem party headquaters, and took credit for the incidents which occurred afterwards. He is apparently speaking at a rally in Virginia on 4/19 - the anniversary of Waco and the OCB, where people are bringing their guns because this is apparently the closest you can get to the capital building with openly carried firearms.

Turns out the guy lives off social security disability checks.

Yep, these folks are soon becoming the domestic terrorists they were born to be. Just needed a little push like UHC to set them off. They are worse than the ones in the ME because they are already HERE.

I don't really give a damn about you but if you were run over by a bus I'd try to help. Not doing so doesn't make sense to me.

The whole point of socialistic social programs like Social Security is that everybody pays in, and people who need the services take advantage of them. It's not "pay in now, take out later". WE are paying for his social security disability benefits.

You righties are basically arguing that it's not hypocritical based on the very nature of a social program. Do you not see the contradiction?

They're both idiots, spouting the same sort of lame-o claptrap, taking advantage of commie pinko soshulist gay freedom-hating anti-american gun-grabbing baby-raping terrarist-coddling govt programs even as they try to tear 'em down.

I'd expect to be treated the same if I acted the same... like an idiot, that is...

Grimes running to his congressman to get healthcare coverage tells us what kind of hypocrite he really is...

Does he deserve better?

I thought these jobless deadbeats living on government paychecks were "parasites", according to most right wing members on this forum.

It would probably shock the tea partiers on this forum if they realized how much of their federal taxes went to support these "parasites" living in red states.
