I will give you that. Most users don't enjoy learning, which IMO is a short coming on their part. I find messing around with stuff on my system more fun than the latest FPS game.
Microsoft does not speak out much against the BSDs. Only Linux. They hate the GPL.

I would love to get Microsoft's products for free, but it isn't worth going to college for it. Plus the uses with those licenses are limited.
I agree with you, there is no reason the use the overpriced Microsoft products if you don't use and need apps only written for them.
I personally think the security aspects should be more of a draw than the fact it costs no to little money and is free.
