How long do you think it'll take for this thinking to spread to other DC programs, such as the BOINC based projects?

Currently, I'm running SETI@Home, which my X2 4200 crunches fairly well. But my 1900XT is going almost untapped with that project.

A loooong time in my opinion. IIRC, the Panda group has been researching the GPU possibilities for about three years now, and only now they support ATI, not even nVidia, and only for their specially optimized F@H software, and also, not all cores, only selected few of the diffrent F@H applications.

Yes, the could share their knowledge with Berkely, but I just don't see BOINC using a GPU anytime sooner than let's say 2009.

The F@H GROMACS core is particularly suited to being run on GPU type processors.

I hope the testing period goes well and they can get this thing into production.
