With Comcast HDTV, do the boxes only output in HD only?

I noticed comcast offers HDTV in me area, so I called them up to ask them some questions. They seemed pretty clueless. I understand that to watch HDTV, you need an HDTV compatible TV. What I am wondering about is whether the HDTV box that comcast supplies will also output a non-HDTV signal to be used on a non-hdtv TV?

They might.

Here, Insight is about to come out with a combined cable box for regular and HD cable.

Call and ask for tech support to get someone with at least 1/2 a brain. ;)

Most of the tech level 3 know some good deal about the product and services. You do however have to go through the first two levels of techs, T1 and T2. Next time you call for them to transfer you to a tech 3.

I have Comcast (New Jersey), and have an HDTV. The box they supplied to me can suppoort non-HDTVs as well as HDTVs. The only thing they did to hook it up to my HDTV is connect the component outputs to my HDTV. there is still a coax output and a regular composite output. So I would presume this would be the same for all Comcast areas.

The Motorola 5100 box will output a 480i signal through the composite outputs , S-Video, etc.

They won't give you one unless you have a HDTV.
