I've been looking at used cars, and 13k is my price point as well. I'm trying to be out with title and everything else at under 14.5.

I've got my choices pretty much narrowed to:

98 240sx
99-00 Maxima SE or GLE
98-99 Honda Prelude
98-99 Acura Integra GS or GSR
98-00 Honda Accord coupe

I've been thinking about the Toyota Celica, but I don't like the old body style. The new body style came out in 00, but those seem to be running a little higher than 13k.

I did see a 2002 civic Si hatch advertised the other day for 13,888. Which was a crazy low price.

Yep, nice cars!! I'm actually going to take a hard look at the Maxima's. My mom has an Infiniti I30, and of course, the Maxima is a "stripped" down version of that car.

You can buy a brand new Hyundai Elantra for around $13k. I have a 98 Elantra, and I highly recommend it. A coworker bought one, and he's pretty happy with it.

does it have power though? i mean, some people (like me) live around some steep hills....

It dosent have a lot of power like an RSX Type S or anything, but its enough to get by for normal, everyday driving. It is 140 HP, enough for getting around town and on the highway.

iirc RSX's peak torque is around 5000rpm. thats bad for short little hills and crap, the RSX is a car for a highway driver, not city driving. My friend has a RSX-S and he is selling it shortly to pick up a nice 1995 240sx SE...

Why are you selling the CR-V? Looks like a fun car. Anyways.. around 13k

If it has to be brand new,

2002 Civic LX or DX
Toyota Corolla CE
Toyota Echo
Mitsubishi Mirage
Mitsubishi Lancer ES
Mazda Protege5 (you can try to bargain for the 2002)
Mazda Protege LS

If you don't like any of those and you don't mind used, your options are infinite.

I just picked up my 97 240sx with $13k. You should look into that car :)

Since you don't like 99 and older cars, I'd get a 99 maxima or a 99 altima. Or an accord/civic, eclipse, camry, avalon, etc etc.

Or you can buy a new hyundai, kia, or civic.

You can probably get a brand new Altima when you trade-in your CRV + $13k...

Or wait for the Mazda 6 and take a look first before you decide...

I'm open to anything in that price range........but, to help narrow it down, something sporty, and reliable would be cool. Good resale value is important as well....which eliminates Hyundai's.....

Used 2002 Mitsubishi Galant ES. It's the best bang for the buck and will have all the options you need. I had a 94 that had 175,000 miles on it before I got rid of it....(gave it to my parents). My mom drives it 45 mins each way to work every day. I got a Jeep Cherokee and I miss the gas milage of my old car. I was getting around 28/30 mpg.

Personally I wouldn't sell a 1999 vehicle but then again I intend to drive my current car for 6+ years before trading it in.

If you want a good deal NOTHING beats a used domestic. For 13k you can get a NICE late model domestic and if your concerned about vehicle problems you'll have more than enough left over to get an extended warranty for the car.

One good example is the Chevy Prizm which from what I understand is supposedly a rebadged Toyota Corolla. You can get a 2001 LSi for $9369 dealer and $8099 private party. Buy it private party and add in a 6 year extended warranty for say $1900 and for $10,000 you have a great deal, plus you have $3000 left over to spend on whatever you want.

If he buys a used domestic the resale value loss was taken before he bought it. So, when he resells the domestic he'll still have a good resale value. If he buys a new domestic though he'll get taken to the cleaners on resale value.
