with a multiplier of 12x on the P4M when put into a workstation setup, does that affect the speed of the CPU itself or does the fsb raise itself to compensate? lets say youve got a 1.7g and it defaults to 12 x 100...1200mhz. would that be true? or would it automatically boost the fsb up to 12 x 142?

also, why does it automatically default down to a 12x multiplier? what actually causes this to happen within the chip? seems really coincidental that this has occured so rapidly in the OC community. seems almost planned. :) anyways, any good input here is well respected. thanks again.

daos, check out the original Mobile P4 link, there's a lot of good info in there...;) The defaulting multiplier has something to do with it being a mobile chip and teh SPeedstep technology which, on a laptop (or chipset that supported it), would step the multiplier down to conserve power. My system defaulted to 100fsb, I'm now running 216fsb (12 x 216 = 2592mhz).

Don't know about being planned...bigtoe at some point recently decided to try one in his system, posted the results, we saw them, etc....
