Alright, so I got my new shiney Giga Byte 9700 pro card up an running, and the 2d is beautiful and the ability of using AA and AF is amazing to me.
I have a few questions though. In 3dMark2003 I get a score of ~4660 at default settings, which is pretty good, using directX9.0a. I understand 3dmark2001 is much more total system based, and I'm getting ~10,000 points with that. I'm guessing my xp1800+ and my memory are my 2 bottlenecks here, but I've also read that directx9.0a might be slowing down the directx8 feature of 3dmark on the 9700s. I don't care about the benchmark score in the least... the games I have now run fine at 16x12 with 8xaa and 16x AF. However, the newest game I own thats graphic intensive is Max Payne, beause I previously couldn't run anythign better at what I considered acceptable levels. Would a cpu and memory upgrade be worthwhile for me? If it would, I will start watching hotdeals. Just asking cause besides 3dmark I have no way of testing the newers games that I WILL be playing in the near future.
Second question. When using powerDVd or winDVD, if I check hardware acceleration enabled in the configuration for those programs, the dvds are all green and blocky. Is hardware acceleration automatic on teh radeons, so it screws them up? I searched the web for this and came up empty handed. They play just fine with hardware acceleration disabled, just curious.
BTW, in all cases I'm using either the catalyst 3.4 or the Omega 3.4 drivers, same results each way.
Thanks in advance guys!
