My biggest gripe with the second one is how the story ended.
I did find it be a very good game overall but just not as good as the first.
To be fair, it didn't exactly 'end' as more 'paused' to be picked up by the 3rd.

- Yup, still loosing fights.. just when you think you've got the system cornered.. Anyway, several more hours into it and it is still giving.. this is an Awsome game!
edit: and the details of this game, a dog will approach you and almost demand a belly rub.. Alot of thought have gone into this dev.. dogs ... doves.. unless the next level is bsod hell im allready signed up for the 3'rd.
edit2 : also, if this game was a tad more open it could rival skyrim in it genre ... If you were to add multiplayer to that I think you have a recipe for beating wow.
I thought The Witcher 2 was a superior game to Skyrim. The combat and UI and story and even graphics were better in the Witcher 2 than Skyrim.
... I spent a decent amount of time playing 2, but got stuck on a boss fight and haven't touched it since. ...
I can tell you as someone who got into the Witcher games because of the second game, that I did not enjoy the first game long enough to get involved in it. Even if you can't play Witcher 1 because of the combat, I guarentee that you will be able to at least play Witcher 2 for the first half (a good 10 hours at least).Funny you mention that. I bought 1 & 2 at the Steam Summer Sale and started playing 1. About an hour or two into it I just completely lost interest. I should probably just give 2 a try since I already bought it but the combat system in 1 is so horrible I haven't even bothered to try it.

The combat is much better, and the graphics are better than most AAA games. For a newcomer the story is engaging and not the typical Bioware save-the-world hero archetype. The one flaw I saw was that the story dies off in the last third of the game and the ending is the opening act of Witcher 3 (not bad, I guess). The choices you make throughout Witcher 2 will carry over to Witcher 3 (I don't think Witcher 1 choices matter much at all in either game).
How you handle the Princess Adda situation in the Witcher has a direct effect on what happens in the Witcher 2. The only other thing I remember is that you start with the special equipment you found in the Witcher in the sequel which is better than you can get until act 2. (If you did the special side quests to get the better equipment at least.)
