Suddenly have an urge to play the Witcher again with the enhanced edition. I tried it once and it was nicely improved over the original but I didnt get far.

Question is, are there any recommended mods that have come out that are worthwhile and compatible with the Enhanced Edition?

hmm. got this during steam holiday, and got halfway through the 2nd chapter, haven't played since...should I get back into it?

are there any mods that drastically improve the game? (not that i felt there was anything wrong with it..)

I did, it was boring. Granted I did not get very far, but that first part was a true yawn-fest. Maybe if there is a good mod or something I will go back and try it again.

I actually started playing Assassin's Creed a couple of days ago and I really like it. There are some serious flaws of course, some of the controls are clunky and having to go through 5 screens to exit the game is freaking annoying, but I am really into the story and having a lot of fun with it.

Enhanced Edition is a nice bundle of improvements fixes, but I wouldnt say it drastically improves it.

Lot of threads on the witcher in this forum. I probably shouldnt of started another one but I had a specific question regarding mods that are compatible with EE.

I was quite impressed with the two of these mods:

http://www.moddb.com/mods/the-witcher-texturen-mod
http://www.moddb.com/mods/witchercharactermodels

Both of these really improve the resolution of textures; I noticed a major improvement. If you want to really improve the looks, this tweak guide really helped with the lighting.

All of the links on that page are broken, but you can find that mod here:

Besides those tweaks, I didn't use anything else besides a few blood mods. The game was great without any changes to the core mechanics.

Considered playing the game in Polish, with subtitles? Not a mod per se, but I found the experiance to be much more enjoyable. The Polish voice acting is much better than the English, even in the EE (and much more so than the original). It's a lot easier to do that in the EE version. Though I did have to download the subtitles when I originally made the move.

That is funny. I played the Witcher all the way through no problem, but I couldn't force myself to finish Assassins Creed, since it was so repetitive and boring. I did give it a good try though, but I couldn't get past the second act. I guess we have completely different taste (although I agree that the first act is boring in the Witcher.)

You think The Witcher is boring but you like AssCreed? You're the worst human being on the planet.

Well, maybe not the worst....

I know!

Of course I am only a short bit into The Creed, so very good chance it could all fall apart. The Witcher's first part was pretty painfully boring, maybe I would have liked it more if itwas The Hitcher. :hmm:

Oh, Keith... How depressing... Incidentally, you don't have to go through 5 screens to exit. Just Alt-F4. I'm serious! :)

FurryReptile, THANKS for posting those links! I finished the original Witcher and decided to try EE recently during the Steam Sale, and some texture mods are just what the doctor ordered. Gonna DL them to a CD at work and install them as soon as I get home. You're the man!

as repetitive as Assassin's Creed is, I definitely kept up with it. Found it more enjoyable--simply jumping from building to building and jumping stabby into guards--than the Witcher.

That was on PS3, though. I couldn't imagine playing it with a keyboard. My issues with the Witcher are the same across similar games, though the Witcher not being nearly as bad (Morrowind, et al being the chief offenders)--encouraged item hoarding and tons of quests that ultimately result in zero story/character enhancement and simply provide tedious distraction.

Having a night/day cycle, that adds to the "wait for the proper hour before x quest activates" factor simply triples the tediousness of these games. I like The Witcher more than Morrowind (too much depth can be crippling, imo), but would rather not endure the tedious and distracting aspects of the game.

The controls are a bit whacked on the PC, but I got used to them pretty quickly after plunging to my death a few times in a row.

The last part you mentioned starts to make it feel like an MMO and that's not something I want in this type of game. I will start The Witcher up again once I have either finished or get bored with A-Creed, but that boredom has not reared its ugly head yet.
